Elizabeth Watts, Lieder prize winner at Cardiff Singer of the World in 2007, was described as ‘one of the most beautiful voices Britain has produced in a generation’ by International Record Review. Elizabeth has given recitals at the UK’s leading venues including London’s Purcell Room, Bridgewater Hall and at the Aldeburgh and Cheltenham Festivals. Educated at King’s, Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music, Simon is professor of piano accompaniment at the Royal College of Music, teaches at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and is an official accompanist for BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. Their programme, also to be performed at the WigmoreHall, includes music by Strauss, Duparc and Britten, as well as Spanish composers: Granados, Guastavino, Rodrigo and Obradors.

After being awarded a full scholarship to Wells Cathedral School, Anna has developed a career as a soloist and chamber musician. She is now much in demand internationally, performing in prestigious London venues and taking part in music festivals from Cheltenham to China. On this occasion Anna is teaming up with Tom Poster, a founder member of the Aronowitz Ensemble, who is widely recognised as a pianist of outstanding artistry and versatility, both as soloist and chamber musician across an extensive repertoire.

Melvyn Tan, our Honorary President, needs no introduction to Milverton where he has wowed our audiences on many occasions. He has been described as ‘among the most thoughtful, elegant and refined of pianists.’ We are particularly delighted to welcome him back after an extensive tour of Hong Kong and Singapore. As well as his visit to Somerset, his other forthcoming performance
highlights include recitals at the Wigmore Hall on the fortepiano and piano. He is also planning a series of performances of Beethoven’s cello sonatas with Guy Johnston and a special appearance at a Chopin Festival in Majorca at the end of September.

Brahms Horn Trio

Sam Haywood, Arisa Fujita and Richard Bayliss, all outstanding chamber musicians, came together in 2008 to play this seminal work by Brahms, described as ‘the most substantial piece of chamber music written for horn in the nineteenth century.’

Each member of the trio is a soloist in their own right. Sam, a pianist of international reputation, is frequently the duo partner of both Steven Isserlis and Joshua Bell. Arisa is a member of the renowned Fujita Trio.

Richard is a founder member of the Galliard Ensemble Wind Quintet.

Alicia has given solo piano recitals in Southwark Cathedral, the Purcell Room and St John’s Smith Square and recently two performances of the Grieg Piano Concerto with the RHUL Philharmonic Orchestra.

She brings to Milverton her audition pieces for the four London Conservatoires.
